The Hot Water Bottle Shop was founded in 1976 by Arvind Mistry, a mechanic, who started the business from a terraced house in Station Street, Loughborough at the age of 26, with one sewing machine and an ambition...
From 1976 until 2001 Arvind, along with his wife Rama, who joined the business in 1982, manufactured hot water bottle covers here in the UK. At the business' peak over 1 million covers were being produced per year for the UK market. The products have always been sold through wholesalers into the pharmacy and gift retail markets and direct to consumers, previously via car boot sales, school fetes, and markets, and more recently via online!
After being forced to make their team of over 30 staff redundant in 2001, they took their design, machining, attention to detail and quality control skills out to factories in the Far East and built partnerships, to bring products to the UK that met the highest quality standard; a standard that they manufactured to at their original UK factories. "We had no option. As UK manufacturers, at that time we couldn't compete with the cheap prices our customers were getting from the Far East." says Arvind.
Today The Hot Water Bottle Shop continues to nurture those Far East partnerships that began over 13 years ago.
As The Hot Water Bottle Shop moves to into it's second generation with daughter Parisha and son-in-law Dips at the helm, their ambition is to ensure that the heritage of a very British phenomenon is not forgotten.
For generations the pride in what we do has come from our mission never to compromise on quality, product or customer service.
Whilst we will continue our partnerships with our factories in the Far East, our passion truly lies in British made products and we are proud to be members of the Made In Britain movement launched in January 2014. We want to bring you quality British made products and our Made In Britain page showcases items designed and made here in our machine room by Arvind Mistry, and also other UK designers.
We endeavour to continue employing staff from the local community and working with and supporting UK businesss, like we have done through the generations. To keep you informed, where possible we will note where elements of our products have been UK sourced and packed.
It is important to us that the quality of your experience with every product we supply should be perfect, from browsing through this website, to purchase, receiving your item, right through to use and experience of one of our products.
